Eunhyuk was born Lee Hyuk-jae in Neunggok, Goyang, Gyeonggi. In 1999 when he turned thirteen, he auditioned for SM Entertainment through the company's Starlight Casting System with childhood friend Kim Junsu. Kim Junsu was selected to sign a contract with the company soon after, but Eunhyuk failed the audition. He auditioned again the following year and was finally selected through showcasing his rapping and dancing abilities. Under SM Entertainment, Eunhyuk was further trained in singing, dancing, acting, and had brief Mandarin Chinese language courses. In 2002 Eunhyuk, Kim Junsu, and another trainee Sungmin were placed in a project R&B group. A year later, the trio along with three future members from TRAX (Jay Kim, No Minwoo, Kang Jungwoo) made a brief appearance in a show called Heejun vs. Kangta, Battle of the Century: Pop vs. Rock, in which Moon Hee-jun and Kangta individually taught them techniques on different types of singing. Later that year, Eunhyuk's trio disbanded, and Kim Junsu debuted as a member of TVXQ in 2003. Eunhyuk and Sungmin were instead placed together in another project group with ten other male trainees. The twelve boys formed the group Super Junior 05, being the first generation of the rotational boy band Super Junior.
With a total of twelve members, Super Junior 05 officially debuted on November 6, 2005 on SBS's music program Popular Songs, performing their first single, "TWINS (Knock Out)". Their debut performance attracted over 500 fans and also garnered oversea viewers from both China and Japan. A full studio album was released a month later, which debuted at #3 on the monthly MIAK K-pop album charts.[1]
In March 2006, SM Entertainment began to recruit new members for the next Super Junior generation. However, plans changed when the company added in a thirteenth member, Kyuhyun, and the company declared a halt in forming future Super Junior generations. The group dropped the suffix "05" and became officially credited as Super Junior. The re-polished group hit big after they released their first CD single "U" the following summer, which became Super Junior's most successful single in the music charts until the release of "Sorry, Sorry" in March 2009.
Eunhyuk is an acclaimed lyricist and wrote the rap lyrics for a majority of Super Junior's songs. The rap lyrics to "Show Me Your Love" from the winter single with TVXQ was written by him, along with Heechul and Shindong.[2] The Lyrics to One Love were also one of his works. Eunhyuk also wrote the lyrics for "여행 (A Short Journey)" from Bonamana Repackaged Album, while Donghae composed the music. Along with Shindong and Donghae, he also choreographs some of Super Junior's dance routines.
During his career with Super Junior, Eunhyuk was put into three subgroups, smaller groups that are branched off of the larger Super Junior group. In February 2007, he was placed in the trot-singing Super Junior-T. A year later, he became a member of Super Junior-Happy. In 2011, he was announced to be one of two new members of Super Junior-M along with Sungmin.
Eunhyuk replaced Kangin's position in hosting for Mnet's music program M!Countdown in late 2006. Hosting with band mates Leeteuk and Shindong, they did not leave their hosting positions until early 2008.[3]
Eunhyuk has also been the co-host of Super Junior's Kiss the Radio (SUKIRA) with Leeteuk, a radio show that promotes Korea's music and pop culture. The show was established on August 21, 2006 and has become one of the more frequently tuned in radio channels of Korea. The radio show recently celebrated its 5th anniversary. He stopped on 28 Feb 2011 to focus on SJ-M's promotions. He promised to be back in 3 months and he came back to SUKIRA on June 21, 2011[4] It was announced on November 30, 2011 that after five years into the radio show, he and Leeteuk would be leaving their positions as DJ on Super Junior's Kiss the Radio and would be replaced by fellow members, Sungmin and Ryeowook. His, along with Leeteuk's last broadcast on Kiss the Radio will be on December 4, 2011.
Eunhyuk is a notable MC in the Korean variety show industry and, like his groupmates Leeteuk and Shindong, has been involved in many shows as an MC. Eunhyuk is currently the permanent guest on SBS Star King & Strong Heart. In Strong Heart, he is known as one of the three Super Junior members who appear as Teukigayo, a comedic sketch act. He had a special position at Strong Heart as "xylophone hitter" where he temporarily left due to Super Junior M activity. 'Strong Heart' presented a golden xylophone as a special present to thank Eunhyuk[5]
Eunhyuk is currently the MC for MBC Great Birth, better yet known as MBC Star Audition, a worldwide search for young talents eager to break into the Kpop industry. Also, he is MC for MBC every1 Super Junior Foresight, along with fellow members Leeteuk, Kyuhyun, Yesung and Shindong.
Eunhyuk was born Lee Hyuk-jae in Neunggok, Goyang, Gyeonggi on April 4, 1986. He has an older sister, Lee Sora and two dogs, one named Choco. Eunhyuk has graduated from Pai Chai University.
On April 19, 2007, almost two months after Super Junior-T's release of their first single "Rokkugo", Eunhyuk was hospitalized from a car accident when returning home after a recording of the radio show Super Junior Kiss the Radio. Eunhyuk only suffered minor injuries, and was discharged from the hospital on April 23.
It was announced on February 25, 2010 that Eunhyuk was diagnosed with Swine Flu causing him not to attend the encore concert of Girls' Generation's Into the New World. Leeteuk and Heechul replaced him. On March 5, SM Ent. announced that 4 March in the evening Eunhyuk went to the hospital and it was confirmed that he is fully recovered from flu. After recovering, Eunhyuk resumed his activities at Shanghai SSII concert on March 6.
Eunhyuk has a number of popular nicknames such as Dance Machine, Jewel and most prominently, Anchovy. Two of Eunhyuk's best friends are fellow bandmate Donghae and TVXQ/JYJ's Kim Junsu. Donghae is Eunhyuk's best friend from Super Junior, while Junsu is Eunhyuk's childhood best friend.
On April 19, a little after midnight, Kyuhyun, Leeteuk, Eunhyuk, Shindong, and two managers were on their way back to their apartment after a session of KBS Super Junior Kiss The Radio. While they were on the highway, the front left tire busted as the driver was switching lanes and the van ran into the guard rail on the driver's side, skidding for about 30m+. At some point, the momentum caused the van to flip over onto its right side.
Shindong and Eunhyuk got away with relatively minor injuries, while Leeteuk was reported to have glass shards embedded in his back, and was required to have stitches. However Kyuhyun had the worst injuries; a fractured hip and six broken ribs. The doctors said to his parents and company that his chances of survival were slim; they would need to perform a tracheotomy operation (through the throat), and even if it succeeded he would only have a 20% chance of surviving. Ultimately another doctor was found who was willing to operate another way (through his side), as invasive throat surgery would mean Kyuhyun would never sing again. Fortunately he survived, and was back on stage after 5 months of recovery.
The accident was caused by the driver over speeding. The driver was trying to switch lanes but lost control and collided with the guard rail.
